Čevlji in škornji za zimo in sneg imajo nalogo dobro ščititi stopala od prodiranja vode, kot tudi dati dovolj topline. Zimski čevlji so najpogosteje višine do iznad gležnjev in več, vse do kolen. Tu gre najpogosteje za gumijaste škornje. Zato je zapenjanje na zadrgo mogoče boljša izbira, če imate debelejšo nogo ali širše stopalo. Razen tega, da morajo dobro zaščititi noge od vode, snega in blata, zimski čevlji morajo biti topli. Zato so pogosto obloženi z notranje strani z mehkimi materiali kot je krzno ali volna. Če vaši zimski čevlji ali škornji niso dobro podstavljeni, ne bodo primerni za daljše hoje na nizkih temperaturah, ker se nožni prsti hitro ohladijo in zmrznejo. V tem primeru je dobro izpod njih obuti termo nogavice, ki bodo zadržale toplino.
