Pogosto se uporablja tudi v kontekstu umazanosti, dolgočasja in depresije. Temno siva barva komunicira moč in misterioznost črne. Svetlo siva barva je po naravi ženstvena, dokler je temno siva bolj moževna. Pravzaprav gre za odtenke črne barve. Sivo pogosto imenujemo tudi barva svinca, kovine, smodnika. Odtenki, kot so npr. sivkasti, lahko pri ljudeh povzročijo nelagodje in to je treba upoštevati pri izbiri oblačil. Modra barva ali modra je simbol zvestobe, poštenja, nadzora, svobode pa tudi sprostitve. Mornarsko modra barva najboljša je barva, kadar izbirate oblačila za razgovor za službo, tako so pokazale raziskave. Kraljevsko modra barva oblačil (Royal blue) poudarja moč, superiornost in formalni karakter. Modra barva šteje za verjetno najboljpopularno korporativno barvo. Različni odtenki modre imajo drugačen pomen. Turkizna barva, nebeško modra in mornarsko modro barvo povezujemo s poletjem in morskimi oblačili, nebom, morjem in soncem. Preveč modre pa lahko prebudi občutek dolgočasja, melaholije in žalosti.
