Domnevno čez 66 % žena črno barvo na moškem šteje za izjemno seksi. Črnina se seveda povezuje tudi s pogrebi in smrtjo. Črna barva torej v zahodnih kulturah izziva tako pozitivna kot negativna čustva. Odtenke črne barve imenujemo tudi barva črnila, oglja, temna, zatemnjena in oniks.
