Svetlo siva barva je po naravi ženstvena, dokler je temno siva bolj moževna. Pravzaprav gre za odtenke črne barve. Sivo pogosto imenujemo tudi barva svinca, kovine, smodnika. Odtenki, kot so npr. sivkasti, lahko pri ljudeh povzročijo nelagodje in to je treba upoštevati pri izbiri oblačil.
